Position: POLICE OFFICER (REINSTATEMENT - FORMER NOPD) (CLASS CODE 7110)

overview

the new orleans police department (nopd) is seeking qualified former nopd officers who are interested in reinstatement to the department. This opportunity is intended for officers who have previously served honorably and wish to return to service with one of the most progressive law enforcement agencies in the nation. Nopd is committed to the principles of 21st century policing, emphasizing transparency, accountability, community engagement, and procedural justice.

Reinstated officers will be expected to embrace these values and contribute to a modern, community-focused policing environment.

compensation and benefits
  • state statute provides an additional $7,200 in annual supplemental pay after one year of qualified law enforcement service.
  • city longevity pay is provided upon completion of one year of consecutive service with the city.
  • educational incentive pay for employees in the classifications of police recruit, police officer and above: $1,000 per year for an associate's degree, $2,000 per year for a bachelor's degree, or $3,000 per year for a graduate degree. Colleges must be accredited by a regional accrediting authority recognized by the u.s. Department of education.
responsibilities
  • responsible police patrol and investigative work in protecting life and property, preventing crime, and enforcing federal, state and municipal laws and ordinances; and related work as required.
  • upon employment, employees may be assigned to work on a rotating or fixed shift basis, which may include nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Employees in this classification are subject to call to duty in emergencies and may be required to work overtime with little to no notice. An employee’s work hours and days will be at the discretion of the superintendent of police or his/her designee.
qualifications

  • previous probationary or permanent status as a sworn police officer with the new orleans police department.
  • a valid driver's license.
  • possess a current louisiana p.o.s.t. Certification or equivalent from a state board.
  • must complete all reinstatement requirements as outlined by post and nopd.

If you are not currently an officer with another law enforcement agency or you do not have law enforcement experience as a police officer, refer to the police recruit (class code 7109) job posting.
