Medical Receptionist, Healthcare Administration
The University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Pediatric Specialty Clinic is seeking a Clerk III to provide reception duties for the Pediatric Specialty Clinic Lab. This role will work closely with clinical staff to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow within the Lab. The ideal candidate will be the first point of contact for patients, responsible for check-in procedures, insurance information, and order placement.
Hours:
Monday – Friday (8:30am – 5pm).
Provide Patient Access Services to Clinical and Non-Clinical Departments:
Check in patients. Schedule walk-in lab appointments. Ensure all lab orders for appointments are in Epic prior to appointment. Proactively follow up on any missing or unconfirmed orders to maintain an efficient workflow. Oversees the ticket system used in the lab area. Maintains effective communication with the appropriate divisions and clinical staff. Performs miscellaneous clerical duties as assigned. Provide support to main reception area during periods of limited staffing to ensure seamless operations.
Patient Satisfaction/ Service Excellence:
Provide high level customer service with internal and external customers, including patients, visitors, physicians and other clinical staff. Ensure patient satisfaction and safety by ensuring calls and inquiries are documented and triaged appropriately. Address concerns of patients, provide service recovery, and elevate issues as needed.
Any combination of related clerical office experience, related undergraduate education, and/or post high school clerical training that is the equivalent to two years of full-time employment.
Public Contact/Customer ServiceMedical Terminology.
Experience RequirementsProficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience in using email and the Internet for locating resources.
Desired Qualifications- An Associates Degree or Higher.
- One year of scheduling experience.
- Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
- Experience in an outpatient clinic setting is highly desirable.
- Previous customer service experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with EPIC is desirable.
- Experience with scheduling is desirable.
- Experience with in-person patient interactions is desirable.
- Knowledge of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics policies, procedures and regulations is desirable.
