A Referral Coordinator assists providers and patients in identifying and accessing community support resources including referrals for specialty medical services in compliance with insurance requirements. Completing referral entry, follow-up, and provider updates according to timelines established in referral policy. Ensuring appropriate referrals and authorizations are obtained and in the electronic medical record. Answers referral-related calls from patients/outside facilities; takes messages accurately and relays to the provider in a timely manner.

• Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety
• Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information
• Assemble information concerning patient’s clinical background and referral needs
• Provide appropriate clinical information to specialist
• Contact review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met
• Provide specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physicians.
• Review details and expectations about the referral with patients

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Strong customer service focus
• Effective verbal and written communication skills

Preferred:

• Proven work experience as a Referral Coordinator or similar role
• At least one year experience in a medical field
• Experience working with EPIC
