The LSU Cancer Center is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. level scientist to serve as the Director of the Digital Histopathology Core (DHC). The DHC will primarily support Biorepository Core(s) activities and collaborate closely with clinical and translational investigators to develop, optimize, and implement high-quality, cutting‑edge histopathological platforms in support of research studies and clinical trials.
The successful Core Director candidate will bring deep expertise in histopathology, oncologic pathology, and cancer medical biology. They will have familiarity with the use, application, and operational maintenance of imaging tools including tissue processing, image analysis and storage, and data interpretation. The candidate will be conversant in assay development and possess a proven track record of scientific achievement, innovation, and service.
Experience with advanced statistical analysis and knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools applied to pathology is welcome.
The DHC Director will oversee day‑to‑day operations, manage a fee structure for all services, perform sample handling and analytic procedures related to histopathological analyses, and routinely validate assays. They will develop new protocols, validate standard operational procedures, coordinate tasks and planning, and communicate with existing and potential new users. The Director is also expected to administer all project and space management, budgeting and cost control, hire and supervise staff, conduct performance evaluations, maintain infrastructure and equipment, and develop new techniques.
Minimum QualificationsRequired
Education:
MD, PhD, or MD/PhD.
Discipline:
Basic or Health Science, Pathology, or related field.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years of experience.
Experience:
Hands‑on experience with histopathology techniques and demonstrated scientific achievement through publications and/or contributions to clinical studies.
Preferred experience supervising laboratory personnel and managing a service lab operation.
