Senior Claims Examiner – Liability

Responsibilities
  • Investigate and settle advanced, large‑loss, and complex claims promptly and equitably under minimal supervision, working within established authority on moderate‑to‑difficult claims.
  • Review coverages, determine liability and compensability, secure information, arrange property damage appraisals, and settle claims utilizing best practices.
  • Evaluate and set reserves using independent judgment, assist supervisors and defense attorneys in preparing cases for litigation, and support team development by conducting training and mentoring new hires.
  • Interpret and make decisions on more complex and unusual policy coverages and determine if coverages apply to claims submitted.
  • Manage all aspects of investigative activity on complex claims, directing discovery and litigation strategy with legal counsel.
  • Establish reserves, authorizing payments within scope of authority, settling claims cost‑effectively and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements.
  • Develop subrogation and third‑party recovery potential and follow reclaim procedures.
  • Analyze claims activities and prepare reports for clients, carriers, and/or management; participate in claim reviews.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Technical claims investigations/settling experience with 4‑8 years in Claims or similar organization.
  • Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
  • Strong written, oral, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of internal and external clients.
  • Preferred industry designations: IIA, AIC, AEI, and/or CPCU.
  • License requirements: per State or Jurisdictional requirements (NY licensing required).
