Senior Claims Examiner – Liability
Crawford & Company

Responsibilities- Investigate and settle advanced, large‑loss, and complex claims promptly and equitably under minimal supervision, working within established authority on moderate‑to‑difficult claims.
- Review coverages, determine liability and compensability, secure information, arrange property damage appraisals, and settle claims utilizing best practices.
- Evaluate and set reserves using independent judgment, assist supervisors and defense attorneys in preparing cases for litigation, and support team development by conducting training and mentoring new hires.
- Interpret and make decisions on more complex and unusual policy coverages and determine if coverages apply to claims submitted.
- Manage all aspects of investigative activity on complex claims, directing discovery and litigation strategy with legal counsel.
- Establish reserves, authorizing payments within scope of authority, settling claims cost‑effectively and ensuring timely issuance of disbursements.
- Develop subrogation and third‑party recovery potential and follow reclaim procedures.
- Analyze claims activities and prepare reports for clients, carriers, and/or management; participate in claim reviews.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Technical claims investigations/settling experience with 4‑8 years in Claims or similar organization.
- Ability to work independently while assimilating various technical subjects.
- Strong written, oral, negotiation, and presentation skills.
- Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects.
- Effective interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of internal and external clients.
- Preferred industry designations: IIA, AIC, AEI, and/or CPCU.
- License requirements: per State or Jurisdictional requirements (NY licensing required).
