The Iowa Orthopedic Center, Surgery Center, a center of excellence, is currently searching for a skilled surgical RN who wants to work in a supportive, drama‑free environment and be a part of an amazing team. The OR RN will provide perioperative patient care, specifically for outpatients during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases of the surgical experience according to established standards of care.

Serves populations ranging from infant to geriatric.

Iowa Ortho offers Monday through Friday hours, with no weekends and no call.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and evaluate outpatients perioperatively in an efficient and caring manner to provide for a smooth patient flow throughout their experience.
  • Collect, assess, and analyze patient data using nursing diagnoses to develop plan of care.
  • Obtain appropriate lab specimens and maintain knowledge of equipment and perioperative nursing trends.
  • Review outpatient charts immediately preoperatively to ensure completeness, including completion of all preoperative consents.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with staff, physicians, patients, families and other health care team members.
  • Conduct assessments according to facility guidelines.
  • Prepare for surgical cases efficiently, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia, and other surgical team members.
  • Provide a safe environment for patient and staff by implementing standards of aseptic technique and by controlling the physical and psychological aspects of that environment.
  • Circulate cases independently as assigned.
  • Provide airway management.
  • Conduct ongoing physiological assessment through all phases of the surgical experience, including medication and pain management.
  • Participate in the performance improvement process and assist with regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
  • Demonstrate competence in specified computer applications.
  • Adhere to all Joint Commission standards and CMS Rules and Regulations.
Requirements
  • R.N. with license to practice in the State of Iowa.
  • OR nursing experience preferred.
  • Mandatory reporting course within previous 5 years.
  • Scrub tech abilities preferred but not required.
  • Maintain BCLS qualification.
  • Knowledge of perioperative services and patient education desired.
  • Maintain ACLS qualification, or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Excellent documentation habits.
  • IV skill preferred.
