This job acts as a supervisor and provider of care at the point of care to individuals and cohorts of patients within a unit. It involves evaluating nursing interventions, coordinating, delegating and supervising care provided by the licensed and registered nursing staff and patient care technicians. The role serves as a resource for patient care assessment, planning, evaluation and facilitates problem resolution through collaboration with unit leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Treat critical injuries, allergic reactions, and trauma.
- Quickly assess patient needs and respond to medical emergencies.
- Organize, plan, supervise, and provide coordinated patient care within the unit.
- Supervise, develop, and evaluate assigned departmental staff nurses and technicians.
- Promote adoption of nursing protocols and clinical practice guidelines.
- Manage conflict and collaborate with other supervisors and unit leadership.
- Collaborate with patient quality, safety, and experience leadership.
- Support daily clinical operations by ensuring effective scheduling, staffing, and appropriate supplies.
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population and communication style.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. BSN required for all Ochsner Magnet Facilities.
- Experience: 1 year of relevant experience as a registered nurse OR 2 years of experience as an LPN in an acute care setting.
- Certifications: Current RN license in state of practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
- Ability to work under high pressure.
- Attention to detail and quick determination of medical needs.
- Good organizational skills and ensuring essential supplies.
- Self‑directed and proficient in unit productivity and quality indicators.
- Computer proficiency and web‑based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and priority management.
- Ability to work in stressful situations and remain objective.
Medium work requiring lifting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally and 10 to 25 pounds frequently. Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and potential communicable diseases. Occupational risk for hazardous medications and waste.
