The Maternal/Child Registered Nurse provides care to patients antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum. Closely monitors baby's heart rate and mother's vital signs, as well as strength and timing of contractions. Works with other health care providers to determine and implement the patient's care plan and assists with complications. Administers medication. Can assist in the operating room during a cesarean section. Prepares the mother and family for labor and newborn and provides emotional support.
Helps the mother with breastfeeding after birth. Maternal/Child Director may assign to serve as RN Preceptor for the unit.
