Clayton County Conservation, Elkader, Iowa is accepting applications for SEASONAL NATURALIST.
The Clayton County Conservation Board is seeking a people-person interested in nature and history for the position of seasonal naturalist. The applicant should be comfortable working with adults and youth, fielding questions, guiding tours, presenting educational programs, conducting research, writing articles, and promoting social media. Other duties include leading hikes, helping with field trips, delivering library programs, delivering care center programs, designing displays, assisting with summer camps, developing programs, and operating a gift shop.
The applicant will be under the direct supervision of the Clayton County Conservation Board Director. Time will be split between Motor Mill Historic Site and Osborne Park with more time spent at Motor Mill. This seasonal, full-time position will include working weekends.
Physically demanding position. Applicants will work a full day in extreme temperatures.
QualificationsApplicants should have some course work in biology, ecology, natural sciences, history or education. Courses in environmental education, interpretation, or outdoor recreation would be beneficial, but are not required. Applicants should have the ability to work with people of all ages and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must be at least 18 years old. Pre‑employment physical testing required.
Pay and Hours$14.00 per hour, 40 hours per week. Weekend and night hours required. Position to begin in April/May and season runs 14 weeks.
