Job Overview
CTEH is a leading provider of emergency response and environmental consulting services. We are looking for a highly motivated, team‑driven rapid responder to join our Rapid Response Team. As a Rapid Responder, you will be on the front lines of emergency response and natural disaster situations, providing support for environmental and hazardous materials incidents, while setting your own availability schedule. This fast‑paced role requires quick thinking, strong communication skills, and a commitment to excellence.
Candidates must be extremely flexible due to high variations in workload.
Project Pay Rate: $25.00 – $30.00 per hour.
Limited Project Pay Rate: $19.00 – $24.00 per hour.
Training Pay Rate: $16.00 per hour or other applicable local minimum wage.
Potential extensive overtime opportunities at 1.5 or higher multipliers.
Part‑time/temporary. Hours depend on available work; not guaranteed. Benefits are not offered.
Responsibilities- Respond quickly and efficiently to emergency and natural disaster situations.
- Provide support for environmental and hazardous materials incidents.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all work performed.
- Participate on projects related to emergency response, environmental response, risk assessment, toxicology, industrial hygiene, disaster recovery, and infectious disease response.
- Immediate availability for frequent extended travel and emergency response as needed for periods typically up to 30 days.
- Operate instruments and record measurements independently.
- Prepare chain‑of‑custody for environmental samples.
- Read instruments and record measurements.
- Drive non‑commercial vehicles.
- Perform tasks requiring lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, stooping, crawling, and climbing ladders.
- Work shifts including overnight and up to 24 hours in duration.
- Work in settings with potential physical, chemical, and biological hazards, outdoors in extreme weather, and on waterways, sea, or air.
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
- Functional or higher computer literacy skills in a Windows‑based environment.
- Desirable:
Experience in armed forces, industrial hygiene equipment, air and environmental sampling equipment, emergency response, environmental response, construction management, etc.
- Minimum age 21.
- Current valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
- Pass company‑supplied pre‑employment physical and annual physicals with drug screen.
- Pass a Respirator Fit Test and be medically cleared to work in HAZWOPER sites (29 CFR ).
- Obtain HAZWOPER certification and related safety training.
- Obtain DISA clearance, TWIC clearance, and a passport for international travel.
- Complete all assigned job‑specific OSHA training and renewals.
Frequently: sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, overhead lifting >20 pounds, bending, stooping, crawling, climbing ladders, long hours with overtime, keyboarding, reading from computer or paper, handling large volumes, unscheduled travel, respirator use.
Occasionally: drive non‑commercial vehicles, work shifts up to 24 hours, wear PPE for HAZWOPER sites, wear encapsulating PPE.
Work EnvironmentFrequently: outdoor work, exposure to hot/cold environments and extreme weather, physical hazards (uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty conditions), over 24‑hour shifts, potential chemical/bio hazards.
Occasionally: elevations >5000 feet, work on waters, sea, or air.
