This position has a Special Entrance Rate at each level:

• Corrections Cadet: SER of $17.50 per hour
• Corrections Sergeant: SER of $18.80 per hour
• Corrections Sergeant-Master: SER of $20.11 per hour

There is Premium Pay for this position:

A rate between $.50 and $1.00 an hour for each regular hour worked, based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.

Position Specific Duties:

Incentive Pay: Eligible for additional pay increase after becoming permanent, for holding an Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree in specified fields from an accredited institution.

SALARY DEPENDS ON LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE

• Vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Cadet, Sergeant, or Sergeant-Master depending on experience.
• The maximum salary for the Corrections Sergeant-Master is $70,845.00 annually.
• Refer to the 'Job Specifications' on the Civil Service website for detailed salary ranges and qualifications.

• This position may be filled as a Temporary Job Appointment. Employees will be converted to a permanent position upon availability.

• No Civil Service Test Score is required.
• Official documentation of degrees, licenses, or DD-214 must be provided prior to hire.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED, or one year of experience in any field.

Necessary Special Requirements:

• Disqualifications include felony or misdemeanor domestic violence convictions, or being under indictment for a felony.
• Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license.
• Compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) is mandatory.

Function of Work: To learn security procedures and supervise, control, and custody offenders in a correctional setting.

Level of Work: Entry

Supervision Received: General supervision from training and security officers.

Supervision Exercised: None.

Location of Work: Department of Public Safety and Corrections, Corrections Services, state correctional institutions.

Job Distinctions: Differs from Corrections Sergeant as an entry-level position focusing on security tasks, with potential to act independently or under supervision, and to train in various security roles.
