Duties and Responsibilities- Operates heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in road, site or highway construction and paving.
- Properly follows company and OSHA safety procedures and reports problems to the foreman, superintendent, or safety director.
- Follows daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and trainings.
- Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, cites defects or required repairs, and cleans equipment.
- Assists in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices; flags to guide traffic through work areas as required.
- Assists in training lower‑level employees performing maintenance and repair duties as needed.
- Conducts daily pre‑trip inspections of assigned truck and equipment.
- Drives assigned vehicle/equipment to and from job sites as directed.
- Operates equipment in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and training to complete tasks.
- Manually loads or unloads equipment, materials, or supplies, and correctly secures all loads.
- Assists in traffic control, maintenance of assigned equipment, and maintains assigned PPE.
- Provides, maintains, and attends work with hand tools listed on the required tool list provided at hire.
- Participates in all required safety training including weekly Toolbox Talks.
- Maintains a clean, safe work environment by cleaning and organizing warehouse, shop, yard, office, and vehicles.
- Follows all company policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Performs any other duties assigned as needed.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
- Strong hand and foot coordination and ability to read and understand gauges and indicators.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems, offer solutions, and apply basic math concepts.
- Strong critical thinking skills and ability to manage time across multiple projects.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions and procedures, and to read a tape measure.
- Must complete First Aid, CPR, AED, and Flagger training when assigned.
- Must complete Forklift certification; not permitted to operate company forklift until certified.
- Current Driver’s License; CDL‑A preferred.
- Minimum 21 years old to operate a company vehicle.
- Proficient in operating excavators, skid loaders, forklifts, telehandlers, and bucket trucks.
- Physical ability to respond promptly to emergency situations.
- Successful completion of the pre‑employment process, including background check, motor vehicle report (MVR), and drug screen.
