Construction & Maintenance Technician (I, II, or III)

Delta Utilities is seeking a Construction & Maintenance Technician to perform company field operations, including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, construction, and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems.

Accountabilities and Essential Functions
  • Installs, repairs, or replaces steel and plastic pipe.
  • Provides First Responder assistance in emergency situations.
  • Locates gas lines.
  • Loads and unloads required equipment, tools, and supplies onto and from truck.
  • Transfers required equipment, tools, and supplies to work sites (C&M Tech I).
  • Trains and coaches less experienced crew members (C&M Tech II).
  • Assists with or leads work on site (C&M Tech III).
Minimum Requirements Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent knowledge of English, mathematics, punctuation, grammar, and spelling.
Experience
  • C&M Tech I:
    No prior work experience required.
  • C&M Tech II:
    Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in construction, installation, and maintenance of gas distribution systems, plus a commercial driver’s license and company welding certifications.
  • C&M Tech III:
    Minimum of four (4) years’ experience, including two years’ welding experience; requires a commercial driver’s license and company welding certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Apply knowledge of industry and company safety standards and regulations.
  • Maintain a valid state driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and in compliance with laws and company policies.
  • Use proper tools for any given job.
  • Assist with Plugging and Tapping procedures.
  • Assist in preparing pipe for welding.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher, and two‑ton or larger truck.
  • Perform gas meter resets and relights.
  • Use company’s mapping system.
  • Complete required paperwork.
  • Demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Respond well to changing priorities.
  • Solve problems with logical solutions.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Operate Personal Computer, SAP, and Mobile Data.
  • Listen and clarify information as needed.
  • Communicate with co‑workers, customers, community leaders, contractors, and vendors.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.
  • Motivate self and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Commit to compliance with applicable laws and company policies, including timely completion of required training.
  • Show respect for all individuals and uphold company values consistently.
Certificates, Licenses, and Training
  • Maintain a current, valid driver’s license.
  • Class D with Class A CDL preferred (or obtain within first 6 months).
  • Obtain company plastic welding certification within 12 months.
  • Obtain company Arc or Oxygen‑Acetylene welding certification within 24 months.
  • Demonstrate and maintain required certifications after completion.
Physical Requirements
  • Operate a motor vehicle, including entering and exiting unassisted.
  • Perform on‑site inspections.
  • Operate a personal computer (desktop or laptop).
  • Sit for extended periods.
  • Operate office equipment such as copy machine, fax machine, calculator, and telephone.
  • Exert up to 50 lbs occasionally, or a minimal amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, or move objects.
Working Conditions
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
  • Work in a normal, clean office environment with normal noise levels.
  • Work predominantly standing or sitting.
  • Comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze information.
  • Work daily in all types of weather conditions.
  • Work regular hours, with occasional overtime.
  • Handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres on occasion.
  • Work rotating shifts, if required.
  • Respond to emergency calls or callouts and occasionally work off‑duty.
  • Wear and operate personal protective equipment daily (respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear, earplugs).
  • Undergo random drug screening for DOT drivers and DOT safety‑sensitive positions.
  • Remain in the service area during emergency events to aid in restoration efforts, if required.
