ObjectivesThe Custody and Resource Coordinator (CRC) assists ERO Field Office and detention facility staff in maintaining a safe detention environment. The CRC also provides services and support for ICE detainees, addressing issues such as trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, human trafficking, and medical/mental health care.
Responsibilities- Assist with needs, requests, and complaints from detained noncitizens regarding non‑officer or immigration‑case related issues.
- Help ERO officers with noncitizen requests related to parent/child communication and child welfare involvement.
- Facilitate on‑site support of disability accommodations and coordinate follow‑up with detention facilities upon submission of a Disability Accommodation Notification to ERO Headquarters.
- Serve as a resource to facilitate compliance with applicable agency policies and detention standards; facilitate discussions on topics such as sexual abuse allegations, pregnant noncitizens, segregation units, and admission/release.
- Address ERO and detention facility staff questions about specific noncitizens and available services.
- Provide referrals to care (medical, mental health, chaplain, etc.) to prevent critical incidents.
- Conduct wellness checks and follow‑ups for noncitizens with specialized needs or heightened attention.
- Meet with newly detained noncitizens during or after intake to answer questions and orient them to detention and CRC services.
- Support ERO Field Offices running specialized housing units and programs for vulnerable populations, including dedicated housing for transgender noncitizens, behavioral/mental health units, family residential centers, reunification services, and young adult case management.
- Provide language interpretation to facility and ERO staff communicating with detained noncitizens.
- Support general safety and security efforts as needed.
- Assist in removal and release planning for noncitizens with vulnerabilities and in the general population by researching referrals, resources in the home country, and developing individualized plans.
- Develop and maintain a national resource database for CRC and ERO officer use.
Certification & Education
- Degree from an institution accredited by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or an equivalent field.
- Master’s degree or an advanced degree preferred.
- Fluent in English and Spanish, written and oral.
Experience
- At least two years of related experience providing services to victims or trauma‑informed programming, involving immigrants or foreign‑born individuals and conducting case management at a local level.
- Experience working with victims or individuals in a confinement or custodial setting.
- At least two years providing services to vulnerable populations.
- Understanding of family/individual stress, problems, and crisis situations.
Minimum Job Requirements / Technical Requirements
- Knowledge of the case management process commensurate with bachelor’s level training and education.
- Fluent in English and Spanish; ability to use telephonic interpreter/translation services as needed.
- Ability to work in a multicultural, multilingual environment.
- Adaptability to schedule changes and flexible work requirements.
- Proficiency with electronic health records, web‑based training, and communications.
- Moderate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Computer literacy; personal computer use.
- Experience in a detention, correctional, or residential healthcare setting preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to create and manage projects.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, critical thinking, cultural competency, integrity, and honesty.
- The Department of Homeland Security’s Personnel Security Unit must render a Final Favorable Fitness Determination. Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Work in a stressful, austere environment without physical limitations; must stand on hard cement floors for long periods.
