About the Opportunity

The Information Management and Technology team is responsible for providing application and platform management services to the Cancer Institute's supported system solutions. The team is responsible for enhancements, incident management & resolution across all supported systems and underlying platforms.

The Software Development Specialist guides other developers and leads in the creation of applications and application functions that facilitate the achievement of business outcomes through leveraging technology.

For your application to be considered

  • A covering letter addressing the Essential Requirements, as outlined in the Role Description
  • A response to the Pre‑Screening Questions in your application
  • Demonstrated ability to design complex software applications, components, and modules using appropriate modelling techniques and established software design standards, guidelines, patterns, and methodologies. Proven experience in creating and communicating multiple design views to address stakeholder concerns and meet both functional and non‑functional requirements.
  • Practical knowledge of application source code management using GIT, database management practices and change control processes, with extensive knowledge of software engineering best practices such as unit testing, dependency injection, and code quality principles.
  • Experience managing the application lifecycle including automated builds, continuous deployment and release management using tools such as Azure Dev Ops, using on‑premise and cloud hosting, with a strong focus on internet security such as OWASP and ensuring the security of systems.
Pre‑Screening Questions
  • Describe a recent project where you designed a complex software application or module. Please include your role in the development team, the tools, frameworks, and programming languages you used, and explain how you ensured both functional and non‑functional requirements were met.
  • How would you describe your development focus—front‑end, back‑end, or full‑stack? Please provide examples of your experience across different areas of the stack, including technologies used, source control, CI/CD pipelines and security practices. Include whether your work is hosted primarily on‑premises, in the cloud, or both.
