Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical AP Reconciliation / Accounting Support Specialist to assist with a significant reconciliation and data cleanup project following recent accounting system changes.
This individual will be responsible for reviewing financial data across multiple systems and files, identifying discrepancies, determining the underlying cause, and documenting conclusions so the appropriate corrections or payments can be made.
The ideal candidate is someone who is comfortable working independently, has strong Excel skills, and naturally digs deeper into information rather than simply accepting the first answer they find.
Key Responsibilities- Perform account and payment reconciliations using data from multiple systems and sources
- Review statements and supporting documentation to determine whether balances and payments are accurate
- Identify discrepancies and determine whether an issue is the result of an incorrect statement, missing payment, or system/data issue
- Research information across multiple files and systems to arrive at the correct conclusion
- Document findings and conclusions clearly in Excel
- Prepare supporting documentation for accounting adjustments, system corrections, and payments
- Communicate identified issues to the appropriate internal team for correction
- Follow up on corrected information and complete the reconciliation process
- Assist with resolving outstanding customer and vendor payment issues
- Exercise independent judgment and critical thinking when reviewing discrepancies
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation throughout the reconciliation process
- Previous experience in accounting, accounts payable, reconciliations, data analysis, or a related field
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working independently and researching information across multiple systems
- Basic to intermediate Excel skills, including:
- Copy/paste functions
- Basic formulas
- Organizing and documenting data
- Ability to clearly document findings and conclusions
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple items simultaneously
- Ability to look beyond the initial information presented and investigate discrepancies thoroughly
The ideal candidate is friendly, focused, detail-oriented, and self-directed. This position is best suited for someone who is comfortable working independently and enjoys figuring out the underlying cause of an accounting discrepancy.
Prior experience with complex reconciliations is helpful, but strong analytical ability, Excel skills, and attention to detail are the most important qualifications.
