Job Description
ATC is seeking a Research Oriented Electro-Optical Engineer with familiarity in the development and demonstration of linear and nonlinear optical systems and devices. The role requires experience in constructing optical systems, specifying, characterizing and optimizing components such as lasers, amplifiers and frequency‑conversion devices. You should be familiar with solid‑state lasers, nonlinear optical materials and packaging photonics components, subsystems and experimental payloads.
Knowledge of laser‑based remote‑sensing technologies—including coherent and direct‑detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier optics and beam propagation—is desired.
- Specification and selection/acquisition of linear and/or nonlinear optical components and technologies
- Construction and operation of linear optical (imaging and non‑imaging) and nonlinear optical breadboard and bench‑level systems
- Laboratory testing and experimental demonstration of optical systems
- Supporting prototype development for experimental optical payloads
- Assisting in system analysis and integration
- Assisting in field demonstration
- Contribution to summary reports, oral presentations, and/or technical proposals
- Undergraduate degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related fields is required.
- Experience in the construction of laboratory (linear and/or non‑linear) optical set‑ups and field‑testing of lasers, passive optics and optical devices (e.g., laser resonators, amplifiers, optical communications links, laser radar, parametric frequency converters).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government Top Secret security clearance.
- Advanced degree in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Math, or related fields is desired.
- Familiarity with design, modeling and analysis of lasers, linear (imaging and non‑imaging) systems and/or nonlinear optical systems and devices.
- Familiarity with optical design and analysis software tools such as Zemax, FRED, GLAD, Code‑V and LASCAD.
- Familiarity with laboratory development and modeling software tools (e.g., Matlab/Simulink, LabVIEW, Mathcad).
- Familiarity with laser‑based remote‑sensing technologies (e.g., coherent/direct‑detection laser radar, radiometry, Fourier/wave optics, beam propagation, atmospheric sciences, optical detection, signal/image processing).
- Familiarity with product development and/or technology development organizations.
- Current TS/SCI clearance.
