The Instructional Designer develops high-quality learning materials by creating instructional scripts, structured content, and instructional storyboards. This role translates company standards, procedures, and subject matter expert (SME) knowledge into clear, engaging, learner-centered learning experiences, with a strong emphasis on instructional accuracy, narrative flow, and content clarity.
The role supports learning initiatives across multiple learner populations and departments, including contractor and employee audiences, and contributes to the development of learning materials that enable effective cross-training, upskilling, and internal role transitions.
Key Responsibilities- Develop instructional scripts and learning narratives aligned to approved company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Structure learning content from foundational concepts through advanced knowledge, using short, segmented modules to support clear comprehension and flexible delivery
- Create instructional storyboards or structured content outlines that define instructional narratives, lesson flow, and intended visual guidance for new learning content
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs), instructors, and internal stakeholders throughout review cycles; revise content based on feedback
- Participate in iterative review cycles until instructional content is approved by SMEs
- Adapt instructional content to support varied learner audiences, job functions, and employment classifications
- Update existing instructional content as procedures, standards, or regulatory guidance evolve
- Support knowledge transfer and cross-training initiatives through well-structured, reusable learning content
- Maintain ownership of the instructional narrative and instructional storyboard to preserve design intent and learning flow throughout development
- Format and upload course assets, such as transcripts and associated standards, to learning management system when new courses are created
- Maintain course assets in the LMS when instructional content is updated, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Strong focus on instructional clarity, narrative consistency, and learner comprehension
- Ability to translate technical, operational, and regulatory information into accessible learning experiences
- Hands-on, detail-oriented approach to defining instructional and visual intent without executing final visual production
- Primary engagement in upstream learning design, with involvement in LMS publishing or technical deployment
- Ability to maintain version control, revision documentation, and design rationale
- Strong documentation of learning objectives, instructional decisions, and learning flow logic
- Ability to design learning experiences that support cross-training, upskilling, and internal role mobility
- Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning & Development, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ years of experience developing instructional content, scripts, or learning materials for professional or corporate audiences, or demonstrated internal subject-matter expertise suitable for an instructional design role
- Experience collaborating with SMEs to translate complex procedures into clear, learner-centered instruction
- Prior knowledge or experience in inspection, adjusting, and/or construction is a strong plus
- Knowledge of IRS and Department of Labor (DOL) compliance requirements related to 1099 independent contractors, including appropriate training distinctions, is a plus
- Experience developing learning content in regulated, compliance-driven, or standards-based environments is preferred
- Ability to follow established learning processes and pipelines, using tools such as to manage tasks, timelines, and project workflows
- Ability to use Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (PowerPoint is required for instructional storyboarding)
- Ability to use , Jira, or other project tracking software
- Ability to use photo creation/editing software such as Photo Room Pro, Photoshop, or similar visual reference tools
