Join Jefferson County Public Schools as an Associate Instructor to support our extensive English as a Second Language (ESL) program, which serves over eight thousand students across the district.

1A Grade 6/7/8 (ATTACHED)
Working Calendar: 187 days / 7 hours per day
Hourly Pay Range: $16.46 – $26.11
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist teachers in fulfilling ESL program goals by providing appropriate language instruction, comprehensive assessments, evaluations, and instruction to the students assigned to such classes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Instructor I – Bilingual Associate- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Passing Score on the Kentucky Para‑educator Assessment or 48 college hours.
- Demonstrated proficiency in two (2) languages:
English and an appropriate language. - Experience working with children and parents with special needs, multicultural and multi‑ethnic backgrounds.
- Program‑specific certifications/training.
- Effective communication skills.
- Associate Degree or approved equivalent training (64 college semester hours) and experience.
- One (1) year of successful experience with children.
- Demonstrated proficiency in two (2) languages:
English and an appropriate language. - Experience working with children and parents with special needs, multicultural and multi‑ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of or receptive to the philosophy, policy, and methodology of the U.S. educational system.
- Effective communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree (official transcripts required).
- Three (3) years of successful teaching experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency in two (2) languages:
English and an appropriate language. - Experience working with children and parents with special needs, multicultural and multi‑ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of or receptive to the philosophy, policy, and methodology of the U.S. educational system.
- Effective communication skills.
- If your highest education is High School or GED, you must take and pass the Kentucky Para‑educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score. For study assistance, refer to the KPA Study Guide or sign up for the KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education.
- Applicants with transcripts obtained outside the U.S. must have their credentials evaluated prior to being considered. Contact an approved agency for evaluation.
