Position SummaryProject Geotechnical Engineer (Louisville, KY) – Full‑time, Mid‑Senior level.
Licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky or Indiana required.
Job Responsibilities- Effectively manage projects, resources, and staff while providing expert technical guidance in geotechnical engineering across diverse projects and ensuring strict adherence to applicable guidelines.
- Perform geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
- Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, and geotechnical data interpretation to ensure high‑quality, timely, and within‑budget delivery.
- Perform geotechnical design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses.
- Supervise and lead geotechnical support during construction of geotechnical elements, including shallow and deep foundations, grading, utility trenching, and other earthwork operations.
- Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel, ensuring that all geotechnical concerns are addressed comprehensively.
- Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and foster their professional development.
- Play an active role in professional associations.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering; master’s degree in geotechnical engineering preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in geotechnical engineering practice with an emphasis on design, field investigation, and construction supervision.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in Kentucky or Indiana.
- Local experience and familiarity with local engineering practice.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team‑based working.
- Fundamental knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
- Experience in construction oversight for foundation and pavement construction and earthwork observation.
- Familiarity with geotechnical engineering software (e.g., Slope
W, Geo Studio). - Familiarity with AASHTO standards, guidelines, and deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to lead small to medium‑scale geotechnical projects and manage field geologists and engineers.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check for clearance to work on various private and government facilities.
