Senior GIT 2 – GAI Consultants, Inc. – Louisville, KY
GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior GIT 2 to work with the Power Generation Business Sector on primarily Power Generation projects and other regional projects. The successful candidate will work remotely or in a hybrid setting and will be based out of GAI's Louisville, KY office, performing field work and design tasks under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer and/or professional geologist.
EssentialDuties
- Perform engineering geology assignments involving subsurface investigations and geologic site characterization for facilities such as foundations for transmission lines, buildings, bridges, dams, retaining walls, and other structures.
- Install geotechnical field instrumentation and select samples for laboratory testing.
- Perform earthwork construction monitoring and foundation inspection; interpret specifications and construction drawings, evaluate site conditions, monitor and report on construction activities, and conduct field testing of soils.
- Perform site inspections at power facilities and associated sites (daily, weekly, monthly, or annually).
- Conduct site construction testing, including concrete and earthwork compaction.
- Prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections.
- Assist with proposals, budgets, schedules, specifications, and reports.
- Assist with geotechnical engineering designs (rock/soil slope stability; cut slope and fill embankment design; shallow and deep foundation recommendations; landslide remediation).
- Travel as required for fieldwork (local daily or weekly out-of-town travel in the Midwest and Mid‑Atlantic).
- Complete basic civil site design tasks, including site grading plans, erosion and sediment control plans, stormwater management plans, drainage plans, utility design and relocation, permit applications, construction drawings, specifications, quality control plans, and construction cost estimates.
- Traverse steep terrain and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Possess basic skills, follows procedures, learns record‑keeping protocols, data collection, and interpretation, technical literature basics; available for frequent travel and field work.

EducationB.S. or M.S. Geology
Certification / LicensureAfter passing state geology exam and obtaining GIT
Technical Responsibilities- Collect environmental samples (soil, sediment, groundwater, soil vapor, stormwater).
- Log soil borings, install monitoring wells, and perform compliance monitoring during construction.
- Write clear, concise field notes and prepare data visualizations (tables, charts, reports, illustrations).
- Receives close supervision on all aspects of assignments.
- Attains mentored experience from a licensed geologist.
- Basic oral and written communication.
- Professionalism and respectful inclusion in the workplace.
