The Maintenance and Reliability Manager ensures the reliability, availability, and performance of plant systems and equipment through the development and implementation of maintenance and reliability strategies that minimize downtime and costs. This position directly manages the Louisville maintenance team and provides indirect oversight to maintenance resources in North Carolina to ensure consistent application of reliability methodologies across both facilities. The role reports to the Louisville Plant Director and partners closely with the North Carolina site to share and implement best practices company-wide.

Essential

Functions
  • Schedule production equipment maintenance and repairs to maximize throughput and minimize scrap.
  • Expedite maintenance repairs during unplanned downtime to restore production promptly.
  • Provide direction to craft personnel regarding scheduling, staffing, and work assignments.
  • Ensure all Work Instructions and Procedures are current, documented, and reviewed with maintenance staff.
  • Manage outside contractors and provide on-call support for emergencies as needed.
  • Oversee stocking levels of spare parts and consumables to balance equipment uptime with cost efficiency.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure equipment and component quality and reliability.
  • Develop and implement reliability strategies, plans, and programs to enhance equipment uptime and reduce failures.
  • Conduct failure and root cause analyses; develop and implement corrective actions.
  • Apply FMEA, Reliability-Centered Maintenance, and other reliability methodologies.
  • Lead maintenance best practices, including documentation, standardization, safety, training, commissioning, and KPI analysis.
  • Develop, track, and report maintenance and reliability metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide oversight for maintenance budgets, capital planning, and project execution.
  • Communicate technical issues, priorities, and project timelines to site leadership and cross-functional partners.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical capability to interpret data and recommend process improvements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact across all levels of the organization.
Professional Competencies
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing a maintenance team.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Knowledge of electrical and electronic principles.
  • Ability to read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with CMMS systems and reliability tracking.
  • Familiarity with preventive, predictive, and autonomous maintenance practices.
  • Understanding of industrial electrical and control systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and related software.
  • Ability to learn and navigate Oracle for purchase requisitions and related processes.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a maintenance or reliability engineering leadership role within manufacturing.
  • Experience implementing reliability engineering principles, tools, and techniques.
  • Proven success with budgeting, capital planning, and project management.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or TPM certification or training preferred.
  • Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
Language Skills

Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to understand and apply information from SDS and other OSHA-related documentation. This position requires clear communication of instructions and safety information.

Work Environment And

Physical Requirements
  • Exposure to industrial manufacturing conditions, including noise, heat, cold, dust, odors, chemicals, moving machinery, and other typical plant elements.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and move between production areas throughout the workday.
  • Occasional need to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, or work in confined spaces to inspect or observe maintenance activities.
