ScopeThe Controls Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and improving PLC, HMI, and robotic manufacturing equipment throughout the factory. Collaborating with production engineers, maintenance technicians, and vendors the Controls Engineer supports equipment uptime, advancement of technology, and expansion of manufacturing capacity.
Responsibilities- Troubleshoot PLC based industrial controls systems (PLC, HMI, Robot, Vision)
- Design, develop, and execute control systems integration projects with vendors and company facilities
- Create system designs, PLC, HMI, and SCADA programs and configurations
- Create and maintain internal controls standards/best practices
- Offer technical guidance during the build, testing, and commissioning phases of new or modified systems
- Program, configure, test, and commission PLC and HMI-based control systems
- Develop panel designs, layouts, schematic diagrams, and control system drawings, including BOM creation
- Prepare technical manuals and troubleshooting guides for production support
- Lead multiple projects of varying complexity, ensuring timely and efficient execution
- Provide progress reports on project milestones and timelines
- Provide training for engineering and maintenance team members
- Research and test new manufacturing technology
- Support PC based testing software
- All other duties as assigned by management
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controls Engineer
- Experience with European control systems (IEC, Siemens, Kuka, Festo)
- Proven ability to write and troubleshoot PLC code, HMI programming, and robotics programming
- Ability to create and document system designs, and maintain systems developed by others
- Knowledge of automation vision systems such as Keyence, Cognex, and Banner
- Must be goal oriented with a high degree of enthusiasm
- Must be team oriented, self‑motivated, able to prioritize tasks or projects independently, and forward thinking
- Experience with computer programming (Visual Studio)
- Field service experience
- Lean Manufacturing experience is preferred.
