Mechanical Estimator

DeBra-Kuempel is a mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) contractor offering design-build engineering, installation, maintenance, and energy efficiency services across the tri-state region.

Job Summary

As a Mechanical Estimator, you will gather historical cost data, consult with clients and teams to formulate estimates, analyze blueprints and documents, and prepare cost, time, and material estimates for current or future projects. You will also review contract documents, attend worksite walk-throughs, coordinate with the Engineering Department, and ensure all estimating documents are centrally stored.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collect historical cost data for current or future projects.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel, and construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Prepare estimates used in planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
  • Analyze blueprints and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Review contract and bid documents; review and understand scope for project turnover.
  • Attend walk-throughs, pre-bid, and scope clarification meetings.
  • Perform quantitative take-offs and computer entry.
  • Prepare scope letters and proposals.
  • Maintain relationships with customers, general contractors, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Engineering Department when needed.
  • Ensure documents are centrally saved in the company’s drive within the confidential estimating folder(s).
  • Assist project managers with take-offs and pricing changes in work.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to the Estimating Manager with recommendation for resolution.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures, and safety programs as established.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company or as directed by executives.
Qualifications

Preferred

Education and/or Experience
  • 5+ years related experience in the construction industry.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and city regulations and guidelines.
Computer Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, and Excel).
  • Proficiency in PDF viewers (Adobe or Blue Beam).
  • Familiarity with estimating software (AutoCAD Fabrication EstMEP, Quotesoft, etc.).
