Job Description & How to Apply Below
Position: Mechanical / Structural Designer

CFW Associated Engineers, Inc., is an employee-owned, multidisciplinary consulting engineering firm serving industrial plant owners, contractors, and fabricators. Our team works across structural, mechanical, civil, chemical, electrical, and process disciplines to support the design of new industrial facilities and modifications to existing installations.

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical / Structural Designer to support our engineers in developing accurate, coordinated 2D drawings and 3D models for industrial projects. The role focuses primarily on mechanical equipment layouts and industrial facility design, while also including structural steel modeling and reinforced concrete foundation drawings.

Job Responsibilities
  • 3D Modeling and CAD Design: Using AutoCAD and Autodesk Advance Steel, develop 2D drawings and 3D models of structural steel framing, industrial platforms, and equipment supports. Model and lay out mechanical equipment and associated components, coordinating equipment locations, access, and clearances with structural steel and piping.
  • Production Drawings Packages: Prepare structural steel and reinforced concrete foundation drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details, using design criteria and direction provided by the responsible engineer.
  • Field Verification and Existing-Facility Modeling: Visit industrial facilities, as needed (up to 15% of working time) to obtain field measurements and verify existing conditions. Perform laser scanning and incorporate point cloud data into CAD models to support existing-facility modifications and new design work.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination
    :
Coordinate structural models and drawings with mechanical equipment layouts, piping arrangements, and other project disciplines. Check equipment clearances, access requirements, and potential spatial conflicts. Use 3D models and coordination tools to identify interferences and communicate discrepancies to the engineering team. Participate in design reviews and incorporate comments from engineers and other project team members.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Drafting and Design Technology, CAD Technology, Mechanical Design Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant education and experience.
  • At least three years of relevant CAD design or drafting experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and redlines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
Required Skills
  • Strong proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD, including 2D drafting and 3D modeling.
  • Working proficiency in Autodesk Advance Steel or comparable structural steel modeling software, such as Bentley Pro Steel/Pro Structures.
  • Familiarity with structural steel components, industrial platforms, equipment supports, and the drawings needed for construction.
  • Ability to prepare accurate plans, elevations, sections, and detailed drawings from engineering markups and design information.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment layouts and coordination with adjacent structural and piping systems.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience with industrial plants, manufacturing facilities, process facilities, or other industrial projects.
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Plant 3D and Navisworks.
  • Experience with laser scanning, point cloud data, and existing-condition modeling, including Autodesk ReCap or similar tools.
Pay range and compensation package

CFW offers a competitive compensation and benefits package including base salary; paid time off; 100% employer-paid employee health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); life and disability insurance; and corporate casual dress.
