The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing and reviewing accounting functions to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. This role supports the Director of Finance with month-end close, general ledger maintenance, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and variance analysis. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accounting accuracy, strengthening internal controls, and contributing to process improvements that enhance the efficiency of the finance department.
JobResponsibilities
This individual must be able to perform the following job responsibilities satisfactorily:
Ensure financial reporting complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), internal policies, and applicable regulations.
Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
Prepare and analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Review and reconcile bank accounts, prepaid balances, fixed assets, and other key general ledger accounts.
Assist with preparation of financial statements and internal management reports for review by leadership.
Perform variance analysis and provide explanations of key drivers affecting performance.
Review and record revenue, cost allocations, and expense transactions across departments.
Ensure accurate coding of invoices, credit card transactions, and expense reimbursements in accordance with budget and policy.
Support budgeting and forecasting processes by preparing financial schedules and analysis.
Assist with external audit and internal review processes by preparing supporting documentation and schedules.
File and maintain financial documents in compliance with internal control requirements.
Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, payroll, and department leaders to resolve financial discrepancies.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism in handling company financial information.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Finance.
Accuracy: Ability to perform work thoroughly and ensure correctness in all financial tasks.
Analytical Thinking: Strong ability to interpret data, identify trends, and solve complex accounting issues.
Communication: Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to Detail: Consistently ensures precision in journal entries, reconciliations, and reports.
Integrity: Demonstrates ethical behavior and discretion when handling sensitive financial information.
Organization: Skilled in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
Technical Aptitude: Strong knowledge of accounting systems and Excel; ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Problem Solving: Proactively identifies and resolves issues affecting financial accuracy or workflow efficiency.
Adaptability: Maintains composure and focus in fast-paced or changing environments.
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
Experience: Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-entity or project-based environment.
Technical Skills:
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience with ERP systems (e.g., JD Edwards, Sage, Net Suite, or similar).
Certifications: CPA or CMA preferred, but not required.
Other Requirements:
Strong understanding of GAAP and internal control principles.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the broader finance team.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
Occasional extended hours during month-end or year-end close cycles.
