Job Description
The Senior Financial Accountant (“SFA”) will be responsible for overseeing the timely and accurate completion of billing, financial close entries, and reporting associated with the assigned line of business. The SFA will partner closely with Finance Leader(s) and local Operation Leader(s) to identify financial trends, explain budget variances, and ensure timely collection of receivables.
Key Responsibilities- Act as a primary contributor towards month-end and-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statements.
- Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules for various balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Prepare monthly invoices supported by audit‑ready schedules.
- Identify aged receivables, follow up with funders, and opine on the collectability of outstanding invoices.
- Analyze financial data and provide insightful explanations for variances to budget.
- Function as the primary liaison with APM Group external auditors for assigned areas by preparing and coordinating the delivery of audit schedules.
- Collaborate with operational leaders to identify spend/profitability risks and opportunities.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior accounting staff as needed while acting as a financial systems subject matter expert.
- Implement Internal Control activities, Accounting Policies, and best practices as advised by the US Shared Services Group Reporting team.
- Prepare ad hoc and special reports as requested by management.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably with exposure to public accounting.
- Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP Business by Design, Concur, Adaptive) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, IF statements, SUMIFS, VLOOKUPs, advanced formulas).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate financial information.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
This is an individual contributor role and does not have any direct reports. The Lead may from time to time be required to support work in other regions. Domestic and international travel of approximately 20–30% may be required.
