Responsibilities
The Educator, Respiratory Therapy assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates programs of education and staff development utilizing adult teaching and learning principles for both Respiratory Therapy and nursing staff education related to respiratory care functions. Works with clinical resources to coordinate education and serves as a role model. Will have demonstrated knowledge, skills and behaviors for neonate/infant, adolescent, adult and geriatric customers, as appropriate, based upon specific criteria, and/or age specific considerations.
Provides quality care as ordered by the patient's physicians. Responsible for the initiation of respiratory protocols and/or the evaluation of protocol steps that include all modalities of therapy. Serves as a member of the patient care team to assess, develop care plans, evaluate appropriateness of respiratory care modalities, and assist with discharge planning as needed. Maintains current knowledge via hospital and department communication tools.
Identifies problems, recommends ideas and solutions, and demonstrates critical thinking skills.
- Three years respiratory care
- Bachelor Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science; medical technology; cardiopulmonary science or respiratory therapy
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (National)
- Respiratory Therapist (KY)
- One of: ACCS or NPS within one year of hire
- Master's Degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science; medical technology; cardiopulmonary science; or respiratory therapy
