Purpose

Staff Pharmacists play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence in the pharmacy, acting as a role model for the team, and delivering genuine care to patients. They support the Pharmacy Manager in leading the pharmacy team and are accountable for supporting the management, oversight, and operation of all aspects within the pharmacy.

Responsibilities
  • Live the company purpose by helping to manage and improve patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
  • Take direction from the Pharmacy Manager and oversee the pharmacy as their proxy during bench shifts, coach the team, and provide feedback on performance as needed.
  • Assume Pharmacy Manager’s day-to-day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist-on-duty.
  • Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by following pharmacy workflow procedures and using safety guardrails at every workstation.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care, coaching the team to do the same, collaborating with the patient’s healthcare team, and resolving insurance or medication issues.
  • Offer and deliver immunizations and support Pharmacy Technicians in learning to immunize.
  • Assist in inventory management with a focus on protecting cold chain products.
  • Partner with the Pharmacy Manager to ensure compliance with state Board of Pharmacy regulations; escalate issues to the Pharmacy Manager as needed.
  • Maintain scheduling flexibility for the pharmacy and help write the schedule as directed.
  • Maintain and develop clinical and technical skills, including required trainings and CMEs; seek opportunities to expand knowledge to support patients.
  • Support access to care and patient outcomes through pharmacist-delivered clinical care where permissible (e.g., testing and prescribing services) and empower the team to provide holistic care.
  • Adhere to all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, professional standards, and CVS Health policies; protect patient privacy and maintain a safe, inclusive workplace.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Pharmacist License in the state where the store is located
  • Active National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list

    • Visual acuity for reading and computer tasks
    • Occasional to frequent lifting up to 20 lbs
  • Educational and communication requirements to convey detailed information effectively
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-2 years of related experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service
  • Willingness to work at other locations across the market as needed
