Position: Benefits and Payroll Manager

Benefits & Payroll Manager Position Summary

The Benefits & Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s payroll operations and employee benefits programs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a high level of employee service. This role manages end-to-end payroll processing, benefits administration, vendor relationships, and regulatory compliance while partnering closely with HR, Finance, and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Management

  • Manage full-cycle payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees, ensuring timely and accurate pay.

  • Oversee payroll tax filings, garnishments, deductions, and year-end processing (W-2s, audits).

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.

  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for payroll systems and processes.

  • Partner with Finance on reconciliations, general ledger entries, and audits.

Benefits Administration

  • Manage employee benefits programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HSA, retirement plans, and voluntary benefits.

  • Act as the primary contact for benefits vendors, brokers, and third-party administrators.

  • Oversee open enrollment, benefit renewals, and employee communications.

  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, COBRA, ACA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

  • Analyze benefits costs and utilization; provide recommendations to leadership.

Leadership & Process Improvement

  • Lead and mentor payroll and/or benefits staff (if applicable).

  • Develop and document policies, procedures, and internal controls.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline payroll and benefits processes through automation and system enhancements.

  • Support HR initiatives related to compensation, employee experience, and compliance.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration, including leadership or managerial experience.

  • Strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and benefits compliance.

  • Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (e.g., ADP, UKG, SAP, Workday, Paycom).

  • High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
