Job Summary and Qualifications

The Chief Financial Officer manages the organization’s finances, including financial planning, risk management, record‑keeping, and reporting. As chief financial spokesperson, the CFO oversees the Finance Committee, supervises the finance unit, and assists the COO with budgeting, forecasting, and securing new funding.

Qualifications
  • High‑level understanding of accounting systems, financial structure, and risk management, combined with strong strategic and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to conceptualize, train, forecast, and communicate financial information to audiences of varying financial literacy.
  • Proven risk assessment and mitigation, leading senior management to appropriate remedial actions.
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred in Accounting or related field.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure production and distribution of timely, accurate financial statements and budgets.
  • Collaborate with program and administrative leadership to ensure financial reports guide departmental and organizational decisions.
  • Oversee analysis of financial data, preparation of reports, and forecasts for cost center management and the Board.
  • Serve as primary liaison with external stakeholders in banking, technology, auditing, and investment management.
  • Oversee the RFP process, audit engagement, and large contractual relationships.
  • Assist in development and dissemination of fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Serve as primary staff for the Board Finance Committee and subsidiary corporations, preparing materials for meetings.
  • Model agency core values—integrity, compassion, diversity, commitment, and justice—in all contacts.
  • Drive change in alignment with the CEO’s pace.
  • Ensure staff and board understand key organizational finance, risk, technology, and quality policies.
  • Keep Board leadership informed of the organization’s financial position.
  • Develop proactive strategic planning for growth and sustainability.
  • Minimize organizational risk through appropriate systems and oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with VOA, regulatory, and funding source requirements and generally accepted accounting principles.
