Position: Sanitary Supervisor (2nd shift)

Sanitary Supervisor (2nd shift)

Louisville Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) – Louisville, KY

Supervises all phases of construction, repair and maintenance of sanitary, drainage, and flood protection system/assets. Responsible for locating facilities for repair and replacement by construction crews. Oversees sanitary, combined sewers and related structures, including replacement, re-grading, erosion repair, cave-in repair, cutting/cleaning of drainage facilities, and direct supervision of unit employees and Field Specialists. Manages flood street closure installation and removal, primary consultation with MSD customers for backup, sewer investigation and drainage complaints, and Consent Decree related construction and maintenance such as CSO modifications, inspections, PACP usage.

Performs Nine Minimum Control (NMC) and Capacity, Management Operation and Maintenance (CMOM) activities. Acts as a primary MSD responder for Sewer Overflow Response Protocol (SORP). Monitors capital projects program and serves as backup to Flood Protection, Drainage and Flood Protection Supervisors, administers service contracts with engineering companies and vendors. Coordinates sanitary employees on repairs for combined, sanitary, and stormwater systems including catch basins, main sewers, storm lines, slip lining, cave-in repairs, property service connection repairs, manhole/catch basin/CSO repairs, erosion repairs, ditch cleaning and re-grading.

Ensures equipment, materials, and supplies availability, inspects and investigates service requests, and collaborates with other Utilities and Metro Louisville officials. Utilizes Hansen, Hansen Arcview Replacement Project (HARP), eB, SAP and other MSD software to plan, monitor, create, modify or close work orders. Oversees sewer line and property service connection televising and categorizes existing defects. Determines blockages, obstructions and failures to minimize system capacity issues.

Plans and coordinates all capital projects and assists with flood protection system maintenance and planning. Maintains contractor and vendor database for I&FP service contracts. Plans, prioritizes and executes work activities, estimates materials, ensures trench safety and confined space entry compliance. Supervises installation and removal of flood protection street closures. Conducts dam safety inspections and takes corrective actions. Provides training, in‑field evaluation of employees, and administers discipline as required.

Participates in grievance and disciplinary action meetings and responds to MSD emergencies including rain, snow and flood events.

Knowledge of construction standards and methods, construction and preventive maintenance, carpentry, concrete and masonry; knowledge of surveying, regulatory laws and regulations; skill in reading blueprints, construction plans and atlases; skill in communication, both oral and written; ability to calculate materials and cost estimates; ability to supervise a diverse workforce; ability to determine line and grade; ability to operate PC and associated Windows environment software (Microsoft Word and Excel);

ability to utilize Hansen, HARP, SAP and eB; ability to perform physically demanding tasks; ability to work under adverse working conditions such as inclement weather; ability to work effectively under heavy, unpredictable surges in workload; ability to work 24‑hour emergency response, various shifts and weekends; ability to be courteous and helpful under pressure.

Qualifications:

Associate Degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction administration or a related field; five or more years experience relating to sanitary/drainage construction; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Must possess a valid driver’s license, acceptable means for being contacted during off‑duty hours, safe work and driving habits. One or more years supervisory experience preferred.

Salary: $60,000.00 – $75,000.00
