Join the WSP Cultural Resources Management Team as an on‑call Field Archaeologist in the United States.

OpportunityWSP’s Cultural Resources Management Team is located across the U.S., with offices in Louisville, Kentucky;
Lexington, Kentucky;
Kansas City, Missouri;
Ballwin, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri.
Immediate openings are available for on‑call Field Archaeologists for a long‑term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi‑component Pre‑Contact archaeological sites, located in close proximity to each other. These sites contain components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre‑Contact periods. Experience with Pre‑Contact sites and identification/excavation of Pre‑Contact features is particularly desirable. This is an on‑call hourly position;
hourly rates are industry competitive based on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience.
Ideal candidates are local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas, but all qualified applicants will be considered. WSP has ongoing Phase I, II, and III work in other states with additional upcoming work.
Your Impact- Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (with additional work at Phase I and II levels), with specific tasks including:
- archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation
- excavation of cultural features
- recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials
- use archaeological field forms to record archaeological data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil textures, and other relevant information
- Work effectively as part of a team
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
- Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field
- Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience
- Self‑motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Pre‑Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region
- Pre‑Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis
