On-call Field Archaeologist – WSP USA

Job DescriptionWSP's Cultural Resources Management Team is located across the United States, with over 30 cultural resources professionals housed in our offices in Louisville, Kentucky;
Lexington, Kentucky;
Kansas City, Missouri;
Ballwin, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri
. Immediately opens for on-call Field Archaeologists with a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi-component Pre-Contact archaeological sites located in close proximity to each other, dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre-Contact periods, and likely containing remains of early use of plants of the Eastern Agricultural Complex. Candidates local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas are ideal due to work location and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered.
Impact
- Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (including surrounding Phase I and II work)
- Perform archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation
- Excavate cultural features
- Recover and identify archaeological artifacts and other materials
- Use archaeological field forms to record data including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell), soil textures, and other relevant information
- Work effectively as part of a team
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
- Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies
- Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field
- Archaeological field school or similar field experience
- Self-motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience with Pre-Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region
- Pre-Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis
