Base pay range: $34,000.00/yr - $35,000.00/yr (provided by Volunteers of America Mid-States)

The SSVF program assists Veterans who are homeless or at‑risk of homelessness in ending their housing crisis. The goal of the SSVF Income Maximization Case Manager is to assist veterans in ending their housing crisis, enhance their independent living skills by providing supportive services and education, connect them with community resources, and empower them to maintain long‑term housing stability and self‑sufficiency.
The position will be responsible for assisting Veterans in obtaining income in the form of training, employment, and benefits.
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field and less than five (5) years of experience; or at least five (5) years of experience with no degree; or a Veteran with three (3) years of related work experience.
- Knowledge, abilities, and skills: family needs assessment; access to local resources; advocacy; counseling; cooperation with local service providers.
- Commitment to the principles of the project.
- Personal automobile, valid driver’s license, liability insurance, and willingness and ability to travel between the counties we serve up to 70% of the time.
- Complete required case management training within 90 days of hire and complete SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) online training.
- Connect Veterans with benefits (SOAR applications, Veteran benefits, TANF, SNAP, etc.).
- Perform assessment and develop/monitor case plans; conduct necessary follow‑up activities.
- Establish linkages with appropriate agencies and service providers in the area/community.
- Provide referrals and coordinate with VAMCs and other providers; connect all Veterans with the American Job Centers and career centers.
- Decide how resources are allocated to participants based on need.
- Educate participants on supportive services availability and participant rights.
- Provide referrals for supportive services to participants, including financial planning services, transportation services, income support services, fiduciary and representative payee, legal services, childcare, and housing counseling.
- Complete required documentation (including progress notes) within 48 hours of contact and enter data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
