Environmental Technician

Overview

Environmental Technician role at WSP in the U.S. Do you enjoy working outdoors and troubleshooting mechanical equipment? This is a full-time benefitted position located in the greater Cheyenne, WY area with flexibility for candidates living near Fort Collins, CO;
Loveland, CO;
Laramie, WY; or Cheyenne, WY.

Your Impact

• Will work under the supervision and mentorship of a Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer.
• Will travel to project sites primarily in the greater Cheyenne, WY area. Roughly 95% of work is anticipated to be in the field.
• Operate and maintain various remediation systems (groundwater and soil) throughout Wyoming and northern Colorado, including pump and treat, air sparging, and soil vapor extraction. Duties include troubleshooting, routine and non-routine operations and maintenance (electric motors, mechanical pumps, electrical power supply systems, etc.), field testing, and data recording.
• Assist in site characterization and monitoring field efforts including collecting soil, groundwater and air samples.
• Perform accurate data gathering and create clearly written daily field reports in support of field activities.
• Coordinate with outside vendors and subcontractors, with internal team support, to obtain required system spare parts, chemicals, sampling kits, etc.
• Be a proactive thinker and problem solver, anticipating maintenance needs and addressing issues to maintain reliable systems and meet compliance requirements.

• Support environmental operations and maintenance activities for remediation systems.
• Travel to project sites and conduct field-based work, primarily in the Cheyenne, WY region.
• Operate and maintain remediation equipment and perform troubleshooting and routine maintenance.
• Collect and process environmental samples and document findings in daily reports.
• Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to secure parts and materials.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3+ years of experience in construction, equipment operation and maintenance, or remediation system maintenance.
• Good mechanical skills and the ability to understand procedural manuals and execute work orders.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Good communication skills (oral and written) to explain issues to team members and vendors and to troubleshoot remedial systems.
• Flexible to work outside normal business hours as required.
• Attention to detail and the ability to follow directions.
• Must pass physical, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record according to company policy.

• OSHA HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
• High-level mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Experience operating and maintaining soil vapor extraction (SVE), groundwater capture, adsorption (granular activated carbon, ion exchange, etc.), In-Well Air Stripping (IWAS), and chemical oxidation systems.

• Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions and in specialized protective equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Normal vision and hearing; ability to wear a respirator as required.
• Completion of employment physical and any required follow-up assessments.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $55,000 - $70,000 (Hourly $26.00 - $33.65). WSP USA reserves the right to adjust pay and benefits based on qualifications, location, and internal equity.
