Laboratory Assistant - Part Time

Summit Pathology is looking to add an enthusiastic team player to our fast-paced, growing Pathology Company, as a Part Time Lab Assistant/Specimen Accessioner. This position is perfect for a current college student looking for evening hours, scheduling flexibility, and entry level laboratory experience. We are looking for a commitment of 10-15 hours per week. This position will be posted until filled.

As a Lab Aide-Accessioner, you will work closely with the Accessioning Director, Histology, Cytology, and Molecular Supervisors & Team Leads. You will also have the opportunity to work with Summit's Pathologists and other laboratory staff.

Summit Pathology is an independent pathology laboratory, owned by a group of board-certified pathologists. We have been serving hospital systems and physician offices in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska for more than thirty-five years. With a variety of subspecialties, Summit Pathology offers world class expertise, state of the art disease detection and exceptional customer service. We take pride in providing outstanding general surgical pathology as well as high level expertise in additional areas such as breast pathology, cytopathology, hematopathology (including flow cytometry), gastrointestinal pathology, dermatopathology, transfusion medicine, microbiology and clinical chemistry.

• Starting pay for this position is $20/hour

• Specimen receiving and data entry of patient demographics and specimen information.
• Assess specimen quality, make necessary corrections, and prepare the specimen for processing or grossing.
• Ensure accurate identification and accessioning of numbers and names.
• Perform quality control of completed requisitions.
• File slides and blocks and maintain daily filing room organization.
• Troubleshoot and handle tissue processors.
• Answer phones, triage calls, and maintain proper phone etiquette.
• Work with clients to address and fix discrepancies on patient specimens or paperwork.
• Use multiple computer systems with competency and accuracy.
• Maintain current knowledge and skills through continuing education or professional organization.
• Exercise appropriate reasoning ability and independent judgment.
• Follow safety standards, report unsafe equipment, remove unsafe equipment, and attend safety education sessions.

• Education/experience:
  High school diploma. Some college coursework. Previous data entry or laboratory/healthcare experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently and to effectively problem-solve issues.
• Ability to organize work and meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain necessary level of confidentiality to protect patient privacy.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Competency and accuracy using multiple computer systems.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, including medical terminology.
