Position: Maintenance Worker II-Open Lands and Trails-Part Year

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi‑skilled tasks in the maintenance and operation of the Open Lands and Trails Division. The role emphasizes native landscape management, wildlife enhancement projects, and general maintenance of properties, facilities, and trails. Work schedule includes weekdays, weekends, holidays, and split shifts.

Salary: $14.00–$18.00 per hour depending on qualifications and experience. Position will remain open until filled.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain and steward City natural areas and trails, including care of native plants, removal of trash and debris, and cleaning of natural area sites and facilities.
  • Construct and maintain soft and hard surface trails.
  • Control noxious weeds through mowing, herbicide spraying, and other techniques.
  • Assist with wildlife habitat improvement and restoration projects.
  • Provide stewardship and education to the public through field contacts.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with department projects as needed, including special events. Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to use basic hand and power tools and operate a variety of power equipment used for trail and natural area restoration and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of indigenous vegetation, wildlife, and range management concepts in Colorado’s semi‑arid climate.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a team or independently.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to develop and maintain dialogue and positive working relationships with the public, special interest groups, and City staff.

Education and/or experience:
College‑level coursework in a natural resource related field or employment experience in natural areas or trails maintenance is preferred.
