The Retail Associate ensures customers have a positive shopping experience by greeting them, providing assistance, maintaining store presentation, and following company best practices. The associate is expected to perform a range of functions across the store and may be asked to handle additional tasks that support customer service and operational goals.
Essential Functions- Prioritize safety and practice safe behaviors.
- Maintain awareness on the sales floor, keeping it clutter‑free and ensuring clear emergency exits.
- Treat customers and associates with respect and courtesy, greeting them with eye contact, a smile, and polite language.
- Assist customers (register‑trained), answer questions, and handle transactions professionally.
- Provide prompt responses to customer service calls and resolve issues courteously.
- Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
- Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters, replenishing supplies, disinfecting high‑touch areas).
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the dress code.
- Conduct daily sizing and recovery to keep the store organized and merchandised.
- Expedite new merchandise receipts to the sales floor and arrange items per company best practice.
- Understand loss prevention, shortage, and store protection standards.
- Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
- Follow Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock (MOS) policies and cash handling procedures.

- Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, and pleasant manner.
- Perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100 percent of the working time.
- Bend, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
- Pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 25 pounds occasionally.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and assigned supplies.
- Stockroom shifts require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.
