** This application is only available to active-duty service members eligible to participate in a DoD Skill Bridge Internship.
** The service member must be within the last 12 months of their active-duty contract. This is an unpaid, non-benefit eligible internship position in partnership with the DoD Skill Bridge program.
The mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining fleet road equipment, including tractors, trailers, thermo-king units, converter dollies, and maintenance vehicles. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all State and Federal trucking regulations, documenting repairs, and performing road rescue as needed.
Key Responsibilities- Troubleshoot, diagnose, rebuild, replace, and complete all required repairs on diesel equipment (tractors, trailers, reefers, etc.).
- Perform preventative maintenance within company standards.
- Complete repair documentation, including repair orders, PM lists, and parts accountability.
- Handle road service calls and perform road rescue/transport as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs and inventory records.
- Ensure a clean and safe work environment in compliance with safety regulations.
- Support other maintenance personnel as needed.
- Willingness to assume increased responsibilities and obtain certifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable hands-on experience as a heavy-duty diesel or reefer mechanic, or 2 years with Diesel Mechanic or TK/Carrier Refrigeration Certification.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs.
- Own personal hand tools.
- CDL A and DOT certification preferred.
- Knowledge of EPA and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read technical manuals and communicate effectively.
- Proficient with computers and software.
- Flexible schedule including nights and weekends; ability to work overtime.
- Ability to work safely and maintain safety standards.
- Teamwork and communication skills.
