Job Summary

The Shelter Program Coordinator will assist guests experiencing homelessness who are often struggling with substance abuse, trauma, and physical or mental health. The Coordinator will work with the Shelter Manager, shelter staff, Community Partnership Manager, and other service providers to deliver essential services such as showers, restrooms, laundry, lockers, mail, and computers. The salary range for this position is $20.66 - $27.90 per hour with a hiring range of $20.66 - $24.28
. This opportunity will remain open until filled.

This is a six‑month temporary position requiring 30+ hours per week with possible long on‑site days, swing or overnight shifts. Hours may change as needed. The role requires being on‑call for emergencies outside standard business hours. A current resume is required, and a cover letter is preferred.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver onsite operations of the shelter program and alternate temporary accommodations, including access to basic services.
  • Provide services consistent with city values, ensuring clients are treated with respect and dignity.
  • Assure proper daily opening and closing procedures are completed.
  • Maintain a safe, controlled environment.
  • Work with the Shelter Manager and onsite security to observe and respond to member behaviors.
  • Respond to emergencies and coordinate crisis intervention as needed.
  • Create risk‑management incident reports.
  • Track and document negative behaviors using the shelter’s actions and consequences matrix.
  • Enter data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Liaise with safety/security personnel to ensure all policies and procedures are followed.
  • Set up and arrange mattresses and cots for night shelters and remove them in the morning.
  • Laundry (lifting clothing, blankets, etc.) and distribute around the facility.
  • Stock supplies and move abandoned property to appropriate areas.
Other Job Functions
  • Provide input to the Community Partnership Office and Shelter Manager on updating procedures for program service delivery.
  • Assist the Shelter Manager in participating in community meetings, networking, and brainstorming solutions related to sheltering the homeless community.
  • Help create internal guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Be self‑motivated and proactive, using downtime for constructive personal development.
  • Possess lived experience with homelessness or related challenges, providing valuable insight.
  • Show emotional resilience to handle highs and lows of the role.
  • Always be available on‑call for emergencies outside standard hours.
Job Level and Management Expectations

No supervisory/management expectations.

Qualifications Education
  • Required:

    High School or GED.
Experience
  • Required:

    Six (6) months of related experience and/or training.
  • Preferred:
    One year of related experience.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Frequent light to moderate physical effort, including frequent standing, walking, and repetitive arm movements; handling of light objects and hand tools.
