- Instructional strategies and best practices for secondary science education
- Adolescent development and learning styles
- Laboratory safety procedures and proper use of scientific equipment
- Classroom management and positive behavior supports
- Culturally responsive teaching practices
- Plan, develop, and implement effective Biology instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards
- Deliver engaging lessons using inquiry‑based, laboratory, and technology‑enhanced instruction
- Assess student learning using formative and summative assessments
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom and laboratory environment
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional improvement
Under the direction of the Building Principal, the High School Biology Teacher provides high‑quality instruction in Biology and related life science courses for grades 9–12. The teacher supports student academic achievement and growth while fostering scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and readiness for postsecondary education and careers.
ClassificationThis is a full‑time position subject to Indiana law, Board of School Trustees policies, and the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Compensation is based on the current teacher salary schedule.
Performance Responsibilities- Instruct assigned classes according to the approved schedule
- Establish and maintain a classroom and laboratory environment conducive to learning and safety
- Prepare lesson plans aligned to the Indiana Academic Standards
- Implement research‑based instructional strategies, including laboratory and inquiry‑based learning
- Maintain high expectations for student behavior and achievement
- Assess, document, and report student progress
- Maintain accurate records as required by law and district policy
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student progress
- Participate in faculty, department, and professional meetings
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum and instructional planning
- Select and properly use instructional materials, laboratory equipment, and technology
- Participate in professional development activities
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and Board policies
- Perform assigned supervisory and non‑instructional duties
- Accept responsibility for assigned co‑curricular or extracurricular activities
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 10–20 pounds occasionally
- Ability to operate instructional technology and laboratory equipment
- Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform instructional duties
- Regular and punctual attendance required
