Architect / Sr. Architect
Caveney Architectural Collaborative is seeking an experienced, well-rounded, and detail-oriented architect / designer with strong skills in project and team management to join our team as a Project Manager. Projects will span a variety of project types, and the successful candidate will be expected to manage a small team working collaboratively on each project from start to finish, through all phases of design and construction.
Responsibilities will include overseeing and contributing to project design and planning, tracking budgets, managing staff utilization, and scheduling. Construction administration and oversight will also be a major responsibility.
The ideal candidate will be an organized self-starter with experience leading others and a track record of successfully running multiple, simultaneous projects. Substantial experience in production of drawings and specifications for all phases of design, project coordination, planning and research, client engagement, consultant coordination, QA/QC, and scheduling of the day‑to‑day tasks of internal team members is required. Thorough knowledge of building technology, solid design ability, and excellent communication skills are critical.
The ability to work independently is a must. The role also requires the ability to visit project sites as needed.
While specific responsibilities may be tailored to the successful candidate’s experience and interests, general areas of responsibility are listed below.
Responsibilities- Leading overall project planning and scheduling, developing and implementing long‑term goals, and tracking progress. Managing all aspects of a project and coordinating all project work.
- Review of, and limited production of, design documents in all phases of design and construction, in collaboration with the full project team. This ranges from conceptual sketches to fully detailed construction documents. Will have final responsibility for quality control of project documentation, including plans, details, and specifications, with architectural and consultant teams.
- Leading concept development for new projects in tandem with the CAC team and the client team.
- Client engagement and coordination, as well as frequent communication and coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and all project stakeholders.
- Budget and schedule tracking and ensuring projects remain on budget and on schedule.
- Mentoring junior staff and fostering their professional development in all areas.
- Proactive, levelheaded problem‑solving with all parties.
- Leading your team by example and understanding how to motivate each individual to get the best result from the team.
- Overseeing team construction administration duties, including oversight of RFIs, submittals, change orders, etc.
- Contributing to office QA/QC protocols and design standards.
- Determining scope of work, estimating fees, writing proposals for prospective projects and meeting with prospective clients.
- Participation in the ongoing development and realization of our company goals and office standards, as well as your own professional skills, with the ability to focus on areas that are of the most interest to you.
- Professional degree in Architecture
- Fluency with Revit
- Minimum of 10 years of professional architectural experience
- Ability to direct or coordinate work and scheduling for a full project team, including design and junior architectural staff, engineers, and consultants
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, and graphic
- In‑depth familiarity with building codes, specifications, building, and engineering systems
- Capable of working with minimal supervision while maintaining an open running dialogue with team members and collaborators
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
- Architectural registration or path to licensure preferred, but not required
- Ability to travel to our Lowell, MA office and to project sites in the Northeast as needed, with a possibility of occasional travel elsewhere in the U.S.
