Overview

Nobis is looking for a Senior Chemist in our Environmental Engineering group based in Lowell, Massachusetts. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and a desire to join our remarkable team of forward thinking committed partners.

What You’ll Do
  • Effectively collaborate with team members (internal and external) and others to execute assignments efficiently and effectively. Provide technical support and direction to junior staff members.
  • Assist in development and/or review of planning documents such as Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs), technical specifications for analytical service procurement;
  • Perform validation of analytical data in accordance with EPA data validation guidance as modified by each EPA region, or reviewing the work output from others on Nobis’ chemistry team;
  • Serve as primary liaison between Nobis technical staff and subcontracted laboratory staff;
  • Serve as primary liaison between Nobis technical staff and client chemistry staff (such as EPA and their Contract Laboratory Program, and USACE);
  • Serve as the primary Nobis Environmental Data Management System administrator. The administrator is responsible for overall operations and maintenance of the EDMS. In this capacity, the administrator would work with other chemistry staff to evaluate and commit valid data to the EDMS, and would be responsible for preparing specific SQL queries and database reports per technical staff requests;
  • Communicate technical information with other Nobis staff, clients, regulators, and in a professional, clear, and concise manner. Accurately document such communications, and apply the information obtained to the relevant project work;
  • Fluent in and promote compliance with applicable federal and state analytical services requirements and guidance;
  • Travel to and perform quality assurance audits of analytical laboratory subcontractor operations and performance in accordance with program or project-level QAPPs and/or contract requirements;
  • Provide mentoring to junior staff in the application of analytical chemistry services; and
  • May perform senior technical review of certain calculations and technical documents.

Requirements What You’ll Need to Bring With You
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from an accredited four-year college or university in chemistry or chemical engineering is required. Ten years minimum of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. A Master of Science (M.S.) degree is desirable.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, have own transportation, and be able to travel for project site visits, meetings, training, and quality control audits. Travel is expected to be minimal for this position.
  • A working knowledge of SQL coding and SQL Server databases is preferred, and be able to prepare queries and reports based on parameters established by other project staff.
