Position OverviewSeeking a Director of Process Engineering with a passion for improving Fab processes for MACOM’s 7x24 Lowell Fab. Role is responsible for the development and manufacturability of multiple compound semiconductor device lines. The candidate will have an advanced knowledge of compound semiconductor materials, theory, and fabrication integration techniques. This position will lead a very broad team of process module groups. Collaboration with Device/Integration engineering teams, quality, finance, operations, planning, contract manufacturers, customers, and sales.
The candidate will organize and execute projects for the development of new device and process technologies, continuous improvement and sustaining existing processes. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization. Possess the ability to communicate clearly, accurately and directly, both verbally and in writing to executive management and customers. This is an on-site position reporting to the VP of Lowell Fab Operations.
- Utilize technical knowledge of Si, GaAs, InP, and GaN processes to lead development of new process technologies and fabrication techniques. Drive simplification and standardization of process flows for new and existing product lines.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of the business and participate in its execution and long‑term capacity planning and infrastructure investment to support future growth. Generate capital expenditure proposals for new equipment.
- Module teams leadership. Maintain and improve a broad range of Si, GaAs, InP, and GaN process modules, including:
- Wet and Dry Etch (ICP/RIE)
- Photolithography (stepper, contact, E‑beam)
- Epi growth, diffusion and implant
- PECVD, UHCVD, ALD
- Metal deposition (Evaporation, Sputter, Electroplating)
- Wafer grind and polish
- Dicing, scribe and break, die sort
- Support sustaining/operations for existing products and improve them through statistical data analysis (Yield, Parametric Data, Correlation studies). Plan and execute DOEs.
- Ensure failure analysis and root cause investigations are complete and utilize industry best practices.
- Accountable for proper New Product Introduction. Ensure valid specifications, photo masks, process recipes, MES route accuracy, tool capability.
- Build, develop, retain, and grow the process engineering team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability throughout the organization.
- Tolerance for ambiguity
- Must be comfortable making data based decisions with limited data.
- Exceptional communication skills and stakeholder management skills are a must. Role requires regularly communicate to executive team, business units, peers and operations staff.
- PhD or MS in Engineering, Physics or related field
- 15+ years related experience in engineering and people management within a semiconductor wafer fab.
