Job Overview

Job Description



Minimum Qualifications :

  • Massachusetts RN Licensure.
  • Three (3) Years of RN experience in a Trauma Center.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Obtain Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) AND Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 12 months of hire.
  • Attend trauma program specific education as assigned – i.e. TOPIC.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
  • Develops the quality improvement program of the Trauma Division in accordance with American College of Surgeons, Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the hospital’s trauma quality program.
  • Assists with quality data entry and validation through the trauma registry, maintaining established standards set forth by the National Trauma Data Standard.
  • Assists and supports the administration of trauma care to the injured patient at the bedside, while serving as a clinical expert to the clinical team.
  • Identifies performance improvement issues through event identification, primary, secondary, tertiary review, clinical rounding and ongoing monitoring of registry data.
  • Utilizing established guidelines, responsible for trauma primary review in collaboration with TPM and Trauma Registrars.
  • Attends and assists with facilitating Performance Improvement meetings with case development, presentation and follow-up and monitoring for effectiveness of cases that cannot be closed at primary review.
  • Organizes and assists the Trauma Medical Director with secondary and tertiary review of morbidity/mortality of all trauma patients.
  • Assists with presentation and recording of the Trauma Performance Improvement Committee meetings, Trauma PIPS/MDPR meetings and TOPPS meetings.
  • Attends hospital quality and performance improvement meetings as assigned.
  • Coordinates with hospital departments to facilitate a collaborative relationship between the trauma program and other hospital programs such as risk, quality and safety, nurse practice council and performance improvement council.
  • Assists with data submission to the American College of Surgeons and works collaboratively with the TPM, Registrars and other organization staff to prepare for verification visits/activities from the American College of Surgeons.
  • Serves as a clinical resource for the team caring for the trauma patient.
  • Responds to trauma activations in the ED to serve as a resource for the bedside staff.
  • Through bedside rounding and just-in-time education, collaborates with all members of the clinical team caring for the patient in both emergency and inpatient settings.
  • Develops and participates in educational programs as assigned.
