Position: Youth Care Advocate (DYS)

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Shift Supervisor, the Youth Care Advocate is responsible for monitoring residents in the program and maintaining a safe and secure environment for both staff and residents. The position is available on 2nd shift (3 pm‑11 pm) and 1st shift (7 am‑3 pm). The hourly rate is $20.00 per hour.

Responsibilities
  • Implement all security procedures of the YMCA and program as outlined in the Operations Manual.
  • Supervise and monitor residents during daily activities, nightly routines, and all program phases.
  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise recreational activities.
  • Conduct thorough intake and discharge procedures, including careful storage and labeling of residents’ belongings and valuables.
  • Maintain accurate logs, including van mileage, incident reports, meal counts, clinical reports, and security sheets before shift completion.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings and trainings as directed.
  • Prevent crisis situations from escalating by intervening and counseling clients; provide support and assistance, including physical restraint when necessary.
  • Complete advocacy responsibilities and document assignments for residents.
  • Report suspected child abuse to the Assistant Shift Supervisor or Shift Administrator.
  • Assist in meal preparation, laundry, and chores; complete supply inventories on request.
  • Maintain a good driving record and obtain permission from the Shift Supervisor before leaving the unit to ensure proper staff coverage.
  • Provide professional and courteous telephone service to all contacts (courts, DSS, DYS parents, and others).
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent; experience with adolescents preferred.
  • Capable of dealing consistently and successfully with clients who have severe, emotional, and behavioral problems.
  • Must have adequate visual and auditory acuity to maintain program security.
