Assistant Controller

A growing, privately held financial services and investment organization is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its accounting and finance team. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who can oversee day-to-day accounting operations while partnering closely with senior finance leadership. The position will have responsibility for financial reporting across multiple entities and investments while managing and developing members of the accounting team.

The Assistant Controller will also have exposure to higher-level initiatives involving investments, reporting, process improvement and accounting technology.

• Lead day-to-day accounting operations and oversee monthly, quarterly and annual close processes.
• Review financial statements, account reconciliations, work papers and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.
• Oversee accounting and financial reporting across multiple entities and investments.
• Review cash activity, bank reconciliations, operating expenses and balance sheet activity.
• Support investment-level and corporate financial reporting.
• Assist with investment and fund-related accounting activities.
• Support distributions, financial analysis and other investment-related reporting.
• Assist with annual audits and coordinate with external accounting and tax partners.
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting and technology.
• Manage, mentor and develop members of the accounting team.
• Partner with other areas of the organization to provide accounting and financial insight.
• Assist senior finance leadership with special projects and strategic initiatives.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong financial statement preparation and GAAP accounting knowledge.
• Real estate accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Experience managing or overseeing day-to-day accounting operations.
• Previous team leadership, supervision or mentoring experience.
• Public accounting experience or a combination of public accounting and industry experience preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• Investment or fund accounting exposure is a plus.
• Strong analytical, organizational and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment.
