SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a local primary school. This full-time role involves providing tailored support to a child diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The ideal candidate will have experience in special educational needs (SEN) and possess Manual Handling training.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Provide one-to-one support to a child with Down Syndrome, ensuring they engage effectively in lessons and school activities.
  • Implement personalised learning plans developed in collaboration with the SENCO and other educational professionals.
  • Assist in the development of social skills and independence in a school setting.
  • Use Manual Handling techniques to assist the child with mobility and daily activities safely.
  • Monitor and report on the child's progress to teachers and parents.
  • Adapt communication and learning materials to meet the child's needs.
  • Maintain a safe, nurturing environment that promotes learning and development.

Required Skills &

Qualifications:

  • Experience working as a Teaching Assistant, preferably with children with special educational needs.
  • Manual Handling training and experience, specifically in an educational or care setting.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by children with Down Syndrome.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or special needs education are preferred.
