Overview

The Balance of Plant (BOP) technician – Electrically biased will support the day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of the windfarm assets, including Foundations, Offshore Substation, Onshore Substation, and Onsite base Facilities. This will include preventative and corrective maintenance activities and onshore and offshore working.

Key Responsibilities

The core duties for a Balance of Plant (BOP) Technician at East Anglia One will be to service, maintain and troubleshoot all 102 Wind Turbine cranes and Turbine Foundation associated equipment. Wind turbine cranes involve electrical, hydraulic and mechanical equipment, while turbine foundations involve electrical and mechanical equipment.

Additional BOP duties include assisting in maintenance tasks on onshore and offshore substations, assisting the HV team and specialist contractors, fault finding and troubleshooting to identify failure causes and determine corrective action plans, and assisting in retrofit solutions and liaising with the Engineering department.

BOP Technicians will also undertake minor projects such as HV switching, isolation and earthing under the instruction of the SAP, following Scottish Power Renewables High Voltage Safety Rules. They will assist and perform audits and inspections regularly, execute the BOP scheduled maintenance plan, and manage BOP spare parts and tools (onshore).

Additional Responsibilities
  • Requesting and processing the necessary permit‑to‑work documentation
  • Assisting in the picking and checking of offshore spares and tools for work execution
  • Accompanying site visitors, HV technicians and other staff on site visits, onshore and offshore
  • Undergoing specific internal and external training courses
  • Participating in development paths, including control‑room operations, other trade skillsets, and health and safety qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
  • Electrical qualification or strong background in electrical competence
  • Experience working in an offshore wind environment desirable but not essential
  • Experience maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Experience performing maintenance of cranes desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Reporting and communication skills
  • Flexibility to adapt to a changing work environment
  • Experience working with a safe system of work
  • Good work ethic, self‑disciplined and proactive
  • Enthusiastic and motivated to learn and develop within the role
